Sharp were the first mobile manufacturer to use a VGA screen on a phone and they are now hoping to update the VGA screen and turn it into a fingerprint reader. The VGA touchscreen in development at the Sharp European labs has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and can run at 30 frames per second. A built in image sensor has the power to read and authenticate your finger prints.

Microsoft announced Monday that it has agreed to acquire Medstory, a search technology company that focuses on health-related information. Medstory, which is based in Foster City, Calif., operates a search engine–currently in beta–that is geared toward the needs of consumers and health professionals who are looking for information on medical topics. Search results are divided into categories of information relevant to the query: for example, results can be narrowed into clinical studies, procedures, personal health information, conditions and substances.

U.S. regulators sued an overseas company and its owner on Monday, alleging they hacked into computer systems to get corporate news releases early and traded on that information, making a profit of $2.7 million. The Securities and Exchange Commission, in the lawsuit, accused Blue Bottle of using the information it received to trade in securities of at least 12 U.S. companies, including AllianceBernstein Holding and Symantec.

A conman who ran a fraudulent recruitment website has been convicted and ordered to pay more than £20,000 by Swansea Crown Court. Adrian Michael Farmer, 58, who was based in Llandysul, was found guilty of charging people up to £124 for falsely claiming that he could find them work overseas. Farmer was also banned in November 2003 from running an employment agency for 10 years after he was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for obtaining money by deception in 2001.

“We are seeing phishing attacks increase in sophistication and ability to evade many preventative technologies,” said Mark Sunner, MessageLabs’s chief security analyst. One out of every 93.2 e-mails, or about 1 percent of all e-mail traffic traced by MessageLabs in January, bore evidence of some form of phishing attack, he said.
