The Royal Academy of Engineering has just published a report on “Dilemmas of Privacy and Surveillance – Challenges of Technological Change”. It’s worth a read. Amongst other things, it claims that that with the right engineering solutions, it’s possible to have both increased privacy and more security, and that engineers have a key role is achieving the right balance. The authors optimistically believe that there is a choice between the Big Brother world and one in which private data is kept secret and secure. During the round table sessions held in South Carolina, members and guests deliberated on the nature of global threats and risks that might impact global businesses over the next 12 months. It was stressed that these results should be updated by the entire CEP Group to ensure that they more adequately reflect the views of the CEP membership. The Group at Kiawah Island determined that the Top Risks for 2007 would be: 1. Global Terrorism 2. Compliance with legislative, regulatory and other governance requirements 3. Pandemic 4. Resource & Skills availability 5. Political uncertainty, international crises, war and civil unrest 6. Energy availability 7. Global Warming 8. Risk Ignorance

Special Interest Groups exist to provide a forum where FIRST Members can discuss topics of common interest to the Incident Response community. A SIG is a group of individuals composed of FIRST Members and invited parties, typically coming together to explore an area of interest or specific technology area, with a goal of collaborating and sharing expertise and experiences to address common challenges.
