White House threatens to veto House payroll tax cut bill

The White House has formally threatened to veto a GOP-authored bill that would link the extension of a payroll tax cut that President Obama has sought to other Republican priorities.
The House is scheduled to vote later on Tuesday on the measure, which would extend for a year a reduction in the payroll taxes paid by millions of workers from 6.2 to 4.2 percent. But the bill would also require a speedy decision on construction of the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline.

Trump fires himself as debate moderator

Dem senators push back on Sebelius ‘Plan B’ decision

A decision by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius last week to block the unrestricted sale of the morning-after pill to those under 17 has met with opposition from women’s groups, family-planning advocates, and now, from some congressional Democrats.
Fourteen members of the Senate Democratic caucus led by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) on Tuesday penned a letter to Sebelius asking for the scientific basis for her move last week to overrule Food and Drug Administrator Margaret A. Hamburg’s decision to make Plan B One-Step available to people of all ages without a prescription.
